RO-SMARTSYS

The Romanian Centre of Competence in Smart Systems for Sensing and Robotics (RO-SMARTSYS) aims to strengthen Romania’s position within the European semiconductor ecosystem. The project addresses critical challenges posed by the growing demand for semiconductor technologies, driven by sectors such as healthcare, automotive, and industrial automation. Aligned with the objectives of the European Chips Act, RO-SMARTSYS will contribute to Europe's digital sovereignty by enhancing research and development capabilities, supporting SMEs and startups, and facilitating access to advanced design and fabrication infrastructures. The project’s core focus is on establishing a fully operational Competence Centre that will provide national and European stakeholders, including SMEs, academia, and RTOs, with access to cutting-edge technical expertise, pilot lines, and training in semiconductor technologies. RO-SMARTSYS will serve as an access point for national and European resources, offering services such as technology transfer, skills development, and hands-on training in key areas like micro-nanotechnology, robotics, and smart systems integration. Through a structured work plan, the project will support the development and integration of advanced semiconductor solutions in various industries while fostering cross-border collaborations within the EU network of Competence Centres. By addressing gaps in infrastructure, skills, and innovation, RO-SMARTSYS will help reduce Europe’s dependency on foreign semiconductor imports, reinforce the digital technology supply chain, and drive forward the digital and green transition in line with EU policies. In addition, the project will raise awareness and disseminate knowledge through targeted communication efforts, ensuring broad stakeholder engagement and the successful transfer of technological advances into market-ready solutions.
